EMPOWER: together for the future of electric and hydrogen trucks

03/10/2025

In Turin, the partners of the European project discussed progress in the development of electric and fuel cell heavy-duty vehicles, defining the next steps towards zero-emission mobility.

The EMPOWER project partners gathered in Turin, hosted by the Polytechnic University of Turin, for the General Assembly dedicated to one of the most ambitious goals of our time: the decarbonisation of heavy transport.

EMPOWER (Eco-operated, Modular, highly efficient, and flexible multi-POWERtrain) is much more than a technical project: it is concrete proof of how European research and collaboration can generate innovative and sustainable solutions. Thanks to the development of an electric truck for regional transport, with a range of up to 400 km, and a fuel cell truck for long distances, with a range of up to 750 km, we are paving the way towards zero-emission mobility that can meet both local needs and those of major European corridors.

A key element is the commitment of IIT Hydrogen, which is responsible for infrastructure: from the construction of a 700 bar high flow refuelling station for heavy vehicles, to the monitoring of existing routes and infrastructure in Austria and Germany, to the coordination of working groups with stakeholders.

During the two days in Turin, the partners shared technological advances and defined the next steps. Above all, they confirmed a clear message: investing in European research and projects means believing in a sustainable, concrete and shared future.

The ecological transition requires courage, vision and collaboration. EMPOWER is proof that when institutions, research and industry work together, Europe becomes a driver of innovation and hope for future generations.
