The CHIC project introduced fuel cell buses in European cities such as London, Hamburg, and Bolzano, improving the sustainability of public transport and developing hydrogen infrastructure.

The CHIC project (Clean Hydrogen in European Cities) implemented a network of fuel cell buses in several European cities, imploying[AT1] the sustainability of public transport. Launched in 2009 and concluded in 2014, it involved cities such as London, Hamburg, and Bolzano, contributing to the development of hydrogen infrastructure and the collection of data on fuel cell vehicle performance. IIT Hydrogen (formerly the Institute for Technological Innovations) participated in the project as the infrastructure manager supplying locally produced “green” hydrogen, ensuring zero-emission operation of the buses in Bolzano.
