Italy’s first green station inaugurated in Brunico

30/01/2026

The new infrastructure in Brunico is the first in Italy to integrate hydrogen refuelling and electricity from renewable sources.

With the new refuelling station in Brunico, IIT Hydrogen marks an important step in the development of sustainable mobility in Italy. Located in a strategic position Located in a strategic position along the Val Pusteria state road, the Alperia station is the first national infrastructure to integrate hydrogen refuelling and electricity from renewable sources.

IIT Hydrogen oversaw the design of the plant, coordinated its construction and is responsible for its operational management, drawing on its consolidated experience in the development of green hydrogen infrastructure and its role as a technical leader capable of translating innovation and vision into operational, safe and reliable plants.

The station is designed to guarantee a daily supply of up to 800 kilograms of hydrogen, with the possibility of expansion, and is equipped with:

  • two 350-bar dispensers for buses and heavy vehicles;
  • a 700-bar dispenser for cars, minibuses and vans;
  • two high-power electric charging stations, each with a capacity of 400 kW.

The hydrogen used is green hydrogen, produced at the Bolzano plant and transported to Brunico by trailer, helping to build a coherent, low-emission supply chain for the transport sector.

The project required a total investment of €12.6 million, also financed through PNRR funds, and is part of a broader strategy to develop innovative infrastructure for sustainable mobility promoted by Alperia. With the Brunico station, IIT Hydrogen strengthens its role as a technological and industrial partner in the development of the green hydrogen supply chain in Italy, supporting public and private customers from the design to the operational management of the plants.
