LIFEALPS accelerates the replication of hydrogen and electric battery mobility at the SSPCR conference

10/12/2025

At SSPCR, LIFEALPS brings together experts and institutions to accelerate hydrogen and electric mobility in Italian regions.

How can we build a zero-emission future for regional public transport? With vision, technology and collaboration. This was the spirit that guided our session at the Smart and Sustainable Planning for Cities and Regions (SSPCR) international conference, where experts, companies, research institutes, organisations and public administrations spent a morning discussing the most effective solutions for hydrogen and electric battery fleets through presentations and roundtable discussions.

LIFEALPS shared the path taken in Trentino-Alto Adige: local hydrogen production, growing refuelling stations, integrated electric charging infrastructure and solid institutional coordination. This model can now be replicated elsewhere and is at the heart of the replicability activities envisaged by the LIFE Programme. The objective is clear: to support regions and cities in defining concrete plans for zero-emission mobility, putting into practice solutions and expertise gained in the field.

After the conference, the group visited two key infrastructures of the ongoing energy transition:
• the Megawattcharger station on the Brenner motorway in Bolzano Sud
• the SASA depot, where the Hydrogen Refuelling Station is currently being expanded

This is a decisive moment for IIT Hydrogen and all the partners involved: the technology is there, the experience is there, and the interest of the administrations is growing rapidly.

A big thank you to all the participants for their energy and the quality of the discussion — and a special thanks to Eurac Research for their excellent collaboration in organising the conference.
