Claudio Vitalini elected to the new H2IT Board

22/06/2026

The election of the CEO of IIT Hydrogen to the Association’s board of directors establishes the Bolzano-based company as a national benchmark for the development of the hydrogen sector in Italy

Claudio Vitalini’s appointment to the board of H2IT, the trade association representing the green hydrogen industry in Italy, represents a significant step forward for the entire region, which has seen Bolzano gradually become a key centre for the development of green hydrogen technology.

IIT Hydrogen is, in fact, one of the pioneers of hydrogen in Italy and has contributed to the growth of a local ecosystem that today combines operational infrastructure, engineering expertise, industrial relationships and visionary leadership.

I accept this appointment with pride and regard it as recognition of the work carried out over recent years by IIT Hydrogen and, more generally, of the expertise that the Bolzano region has built up through vision, continuity and a capacity for innovation, thanks in part to the contribution of Alperia and Autostrada del Brennero, our key partners,” said Claudio Vitalini, CEO of IIT Hydrogen. “Today, this wealth of expertise,” concluded Vitaliani, “is ready to make an even more significant contribution at national level, including through H2IT, at a decisive stage for the country’s energy and industrial future.”

A key milestone in this journey was the construction, between 2013 and 2014, of one of Italy’s first green hydrogen production and distribution plants for transport, which has been in continuous operation for over ten years along the Brenner motorway corridor in Bolzano. An experience which, over time, has evolved into distinctive know-how and a concrete platform to support the evolution of hydrogen from a pioneering application for sustainable mobility to an industrial driver for the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors.
